I would If I could 36: Freeing press & politicians from each other

Currently, oligarchs, governements, establishments bribe the press, media outlets to either kill or boost a story. Many oligarchs buy out media outlets, opinion makers to use that as a leverage against the government and politicians. How can we end this presstitution?

A slot-based bidding system (essentially a blind auction for ad inventory based on metrics like TRP) touches on the concept of programmatic advertising. It removes the human element—the "I’ll buy your ad space if you kill this story" conversation—from the equation.

Decoupling ad sales from specific media outlets forces a shift from relationship-based advertising (where deals are made in backrooms) to performance-based advertising (where deals are based on reach).

Reduction of Extortion: If a politician cannot directly influence where their ad runs, the incentive for them to "buy" an outlet to prevent negative coverage drops slightly.

Leveling the Playing Field: Smaller, independent, or truth-telling outlets with high engagement could theoretically monetize just as effectively as the large, corporate-owned conglomerates if their TRP is high enough.
